Supporting the People of Ukraine: Helping Pets in Need

March 31, 2022

March 31, 2022, Woburn, MA: No one should ever have to leave their pet behind. Heartbreakingly, that’s what thousands of Ukrainian pet parents are facing as they seek refuge amid Russia’s invasion. Like humans, pets are dealing with the traumas of war, and it’s through a financial contribution that the team at Ethos Veterinary Health has chosen to be there for the most vulnerable in their greatest time of need. Although many pets are safely evacuating to neighboring countries with their pet parents, not everyone is this fortunate. The animals left behind are in critical need of food, supplies, and veterinary care. Animal shelters in Ukraine fear they will run out of food soon.

As this crisis for humans and their animals continues to unfold, there are ways to help people stay with their pets, or to help animals that remain in shelters in war-torn areas. Ethos Veterinary Health is making a $50,000 donation to the American Veterinary Medicine Foundation (AVMF) to support veterinary teams and animal-welfare groups in Ukraine and neighboring countries that are providing care to animals affected by the crisis. While we evaluated several options, we chose this organization because 100% of the donation will go directly to disaster relief in Ukraine.

The AVMF’s mission is to develop charitable resources to advance the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.

Specifically related to the crisis in Ukraine, the AVMF has set up the ability to donate directly to get support to those who need it in the affected areas. The support will be provided to the veterinary teams and the animals they care for by providing food, veterinary care, and emergency support. For those who would like to provide their individual support of these efforts, information is available here.

We also want to acknowledge and thank local team efforts across Ethos to provide relief to pets in Ukraine. To these everyday heroes, we would like to extend our appreciation for all you do for pets here at home, and across the world.
